One of the things I love most about AdSense, is its set and forget feature. Once you decide on the size and position of your ads, you just paste your AdSense code into your site and Google pretty much takes care of the rest.
There is also a lot of mystery surrounding AdSense and how much you can make with it. Google keeps their cards pretty close to their chest when it comes to how much they make from AdSense, and also how much you are likely to make as well. So, until you put the code on your site and start making money, it’s pretty hard to get an accurate idea of how much money you will make.
How to find the top paying AdSense keywords?
By linking your Google Analytics account to your AdSense account
Link your Google Analytics to your AdSense Account
These two accounts are not automatically linked – you will need to manually select to link them.
And so, once you link these two accounts, Analytics will then be able to tell you
- which are the most profitable pages on your site
- what are the most profitable keywords on your site.
Unfortunately, due to AdSense Terms of Service, I am unable to show you screen shots, but what I do is outlined in the below steps.
To find the most profitable pages on your site:
- Go into your Analytics account and click on the Content section.
- Then click on the AdSense section.
This will bring up a report of the pages on your site with their corresponding amount they have earned with AdSense.
So, what does this tell you?
This information tells you:
- What topics are performing the best and therefore, should be getting more traffic to
- Which content attracts the highest paying ads and as well, should be getting more traffic to
- Which ad positions convert the best (if you have different ad positions on different posts)
To find the top paying AdSense keywords on your site:
- Go into your Analytics account and click on Traffic Sources section
- Then click on the Keywords section
- You will then see, within the report, an AdSense Revenue tab. Click on this to get this information.
- You can rank by actual AdSense amount, but I like to rank by AdSense eCPM as this gives a much better sense of “earnings”.
So, what does this tell you?
- It gives you an idea of the profitability of certain keywords
- tells you what keywords you should be targeting in your SEO campaigns.
- And the most important of all, write an entire post dedicated to the most profitable keyword!
By adopting these methods, I have found keywords that pay really really well and therefore have dramatically increased my AdSense earnings.
